Football in the movies

Vassilis Georgiadis' film "The Aces of the Stadium" opens as a huge grossing success. The players of the national team Stathis Mantalozis, Kostas Linoxylakis, Lakis Petropoulos, Andreas Mouratis and Kostas Poulis are the protagonists. The film's screenplay is by Iakovos Kampanellis and the music by Argyris Kounadis. The Sports Ethics Committee objects because it argues that the players used their status as amateur athletes to collect a fee. They deliberate their expulsion from the EPO registry, but they decide against it. In 1997 the film was screened at the Greek Film Archive under the title "Sunday's Heroes."
