In Lausanne, Greece officially submits its candidacy for the 2004 Olympic Games. The Chairman of the Olympic Games Claiming Committee is Gianna Angelopoulos, who, together with her husband Theodoros Angelopoulos, are the decisive force in the effort to achieve the goal. The total number of applications submitted to the IOE is 11, and the Greek file-case is advocated unanimously by the Municipality of Athens and the Hellenic Olympic Games Committee.
