European Championship in basketball

A new triumph for our national sport. In EuroBasket, Greece defeats Germany 78-62 and is declared European Champion. Panagiotis Giannakis (the final’s roster: Tsartsaris 10, Hatzivrettas 8(2), Zisis 13, Diamantidis 2, Papaloukas 22, Dikoudis 8, Kakiousis 11(2), Bourousis 4, Spanoulis 2, Vasilopoulos), is crowned Champion again after 18 years but, this time, as the coach. The "official beloved" summons the Greek people to the streets. On the way to the final, Greece eliminated Andrei Kirilenko's Russia (66-61) and the front runner, Tony Parker's France, (67-66), thanks to Dimitris Diamantidis' memorable three-point goal.
