Two Delphic hymns to Apollo are discovered in Delphi by French excavation teams

Two Delphic hymns to Apollo (paeans of the 2nd century BC) are discovered in Delphi, and they are classified as among the most complete ancient Greek music fragments. Theodore Reinach was the first to transcribe the music to a modern notation in 1893 and 1894. The task is received with enthusiasm both by Greeks and Europeans. Copious and deep articles follow the discovery, especially in Constantinople rather than in Athens. In Athens, the discovery triggers many interpretations of the ancient Greek music's fragments, presented in different variations and with modern Greek music. On March 26, 1894, the "Société Française de Bienfaisance" held a concert at the Hall of the Friends of the Muses, where the Hymn of Apollo was performed. The translation was by the poet Palamas and harmonizing by L. Nicole.
