Greece's first participation in the Winter Olympic Games

The Games are held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Greece participates with Dimitris Negropontis. Since then, 55 men and women athletes have represented the Greek colors. At the beginning of the 20th century, Kostas Eleftheroudakis, known through the bookstores' chain, was the one who brought the first skis to Greece. And pioneers of Greek skiing, such as Otto Simitsek, popularized it, mainly through mountaineering clubs.
