Chiotis composed the song Sunsets, with lyrics by Eftyhia Papagiannopoulou, and performed by Mary Linda. It marked the introduction of bouzouki in the aristocratic circles of Athens. The traditional rebetiko fell into obscurity. New dances began to dominate, initiating a new style of entertainment at the popular nightclubs. The breaking of plates at these venues marked a newly established need to escape from the harsh post-war and post-civil war reality. At the same time, the music became influenced by Oriental and Arab sounds, a result of the impact Indian cinema had on the public at that particular time. Several composers used Indian melodies, dressed them with Greek lyrics and made records.
