Maria Hors choreographed Maria Callas in Cherubini's Medea

Maria Hors was the most emblematic Greek choreographer, in charge of the Olympic flame's lighting ceremony for close to 50 years. Maria Hors (1921-2015) choreographed more than 120 performances of 30 ancient tragedies. She was a house choreographer at the National Theatre, at whose Drama School she taught expressive movement, dance, and improvisation. She also taught at the Theatre Workshop of Spyros Evangelatos, the Studio of the Opera House, and the Athens Conservatoire. In 1961 Maria Hors created the choral parts for Cherubini's opera Medea, with Maria Callas' sensational performance. Alexis Minotis directed the play, and Giannis Tsarouchis did the set design.  The opera was performed at Epidaurus and Milan's La Scala.
