Giorgos Zabetas dies

Giorgos Zabetas died from cancer at the age of 69. He formed his own school and, even though Manolis Chiotis introduced bouzouki to the upper classes, it was Zabetas who made it known all over the world by participating in international festivals (Paris, Cannes, Vienna, New York, etc.). His first songs were recorded in 1953 with Stelios Kazantzidis. In the 1960s, he reached the top with huge hits (Lost, Stala-Stala, Mias Pentaras Niata, etc.). A particular chapter in his career in Greek song was his long collaboration, as a virtuoso, with most of the country's leading composers: Manos Hatzidakis, Mickey Theodorakis, Stavros Xarhakos, Giannis Markopoulos, Christos Leontis, Mimi Plessas, Costas Kapnisi, Costas Klavi, Nikos Mamagakis, Giorgos Mouzakis, etc.
