The Olympic Flame is introduced

The instigator of the revival of Modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin, considers the Olympic Flame a link between the old and the modern Olympic games. And that it expresses the source from which the modern draws power from the old. The Olympic Flame lights up for the first time at the Amsterdam Olympic Games. In these Games, also for the first time, Greece parades first among the national teams in honor of the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Holland, as the host country, parades last. This ritual has been consistently performed ever since. The Lighting of the Olympic Flame in Ancient Olympia and its transport to the Olympic Games venue through a torch relay was introduced and established onwards at the Berlin Olympic Games in 1936.
