Iraklis Gymnastics Club is founded

Its history begins in 1988 - during the Turkish occupation - with the Club of Philomouson (Club of Friends of Music), which is considered a forerunner club of G.S. Iraklis of Thessaloniki.  Over time, the Club establishes sports sections. Ten years later and four years before Thessaloniki's liberation, a football team called the "Macedonian Gymnastics Club" is founded by merging with the Olympia youth team (they used a private gym behind Ethnikis Amynis Street in the area of Syntrivani). The name "Macedonian" annoys the Ottomans and the name changes to Greek Club of Thessaloniki "Iraklis". The colors of the group (cyan and white) were chosen from the Greek flag and express the nationality and passion of its members for Thessaloniki's liberation.
