At the initiative of fans from Constantinople, the refugees become involved in sports also in Thessaloniki. PAOK ("Panthessalonikian Athletic Club of Constantinopolitans") is not enough for the refugees from Pontos (The Black Sea). Its first president is Triantafillos Triantafyllidis. The colors, black and white, symbolize the lost homelands and hope, which does not evade. The first emblem is a four-leaf clover, inspired by Kostas Koemtzopoulos. In 1929 PAOK - on the initiative of Dr. Karamaounas, president of the cultural club "Union of Constantinopolitans" - merged with the other refugee club of Thessaloniki, AEK. Its emblem is now the Byzantine Two-Headed Eagle, but with its wings drawn, a sign of mourning for the pogrom and Greeks' expulsion from the city.
