Women's water polo on top of the world

The women's national water polo team coached by Giorgos Morfesis (Asimaki 3, Rubesi 3, Melidoni, Liosi, Manolioudaki, Kouvdou, Tsoukala, Psouni, Avramidou, Gerolymou, Antonakou, Lara, and Goula) defeats the host China 9-8. The team wins the gold medal in water polo at the 14th World Aquatics Championships, held in the 18,000-seat Shanghai Pudong Natatorium. It is the first gold medal in a world championship for a Greek team sport.
